Theology and the Bible

You will find that theology is hard...Reading the bible from a literal perspective is what most people to, but there is also the moral perspective (how it refers to you), the allegorical perspective (how it refers to Jesus), and the anagogical perspective (how it refers to the future heaven and earth).

And there is also biblical typology, where OT people or events reference NT people or events. For instance -

  • The Passover where the Jews had to eat the sacrificial lamb to save their first born son directly parallels the Eucharist, where Catholics have to eat the sacificial lamb (Jesus) in order for us to be saved (from John 6).
  • Psalm 22 and Wisdom 2 are direct references to the Passion of Jesus Christ.
  • Moses changed the water of the Nile to blood; Jesus changed water into wine, and later changed wine into his blood, the fruit of the Vine (Jesus is the vine, we are the branches).
  •  Eve, an immaculately created virgin, said yes to the spirit Lucifer and ate of the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and allowed sin to enter the world. Mary, also an immaculately created virgin, said yes to the spirit Gabriel and allowed the Bread of Life to enter the world, bringing salvation to us from the tree known as the cross.

The list is practically endless, but most people don't ever connect the typology dots.

Confessing your sins to a priest

To those who say that they would never confess their sins to a man to obtain forgiveness, I say fine - Never go see a doctor for a body ailment, and don't tell him where it hurts; Just pray to Jesus to heal you, because Jesus can heal much better than any man, and he's free!
