As we read about the Jews worshipping the golden calf as a god, and not trusting in God to water them, feed them, and to overcome the Canaanites in the Promised Land, we should try to apply this to our lives today, instead of just reading it as history. We all travel through a secular wasteland today, filled with false gods of money, illicit sex, drugs, abortion, pleasure, etc. And how many of us know and care more about these things than the Word of God in the Bible? A LOT! And how many of us put more trust in our 401K's or condoms or drugs than we do in Jesus Christ? A LOT! So try to personalize the story about the Jews and their resultant punishment from God. You will soon see that nothing has changed much in human nature!
1 Corinthians 10:1-14: I want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same supernatural food and all drank the same supernatural drink. For they drank from the supernatural Rock which followed them, and the Rock was Christ. Nevertheless with most of them God was not pleased; for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things are warnings for us, not to desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to dance." We must not indulge in immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents; nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as a warning, but they were written down for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Therefore, my beloved, shun the worship of idols.

"Whom does the devil pursue most? Perhaps you are thinking that it must be those who are tempted most; these would undoubtedly be the habitual drunkards, the scandalmongers, the immodest and shameless people who wallow in moral filth, and the miser, who hoards in all sorts of ways. No, my dear brethren, no, it is not these people. On the contrary, the Devil despises them, or else he holds onto them, lest they not have a long enough time in which to do evil, because the longer they live, the more their bad example will drag souls into Hell.
So, you will ask me, who then are the people most tempted? They are these, my friends; note them carefully. The people most tempted are those who are ready, with the grace of God, to sacrifice everything for the salvation of their poor souls, who renounce all those things which most people eagerly seek. It is not one devil only who tempts them, but millions seek to entrap them."

Well, Governor Andrew Cuomo got his wish. New York City and the Great State of New York have now been turned into a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. The homosexual activists, who have stolen the rainbow, God's sign that He will never destroy the world by a flood again, as their symbol, now have the 3rd largest state in the Union on-board with their "sodomy = the conjugal act between husband and wife" agenda approved.
Pride was the devil's great sin, and the homosexual activists have also stolen that from the devil, boldly strutting around with "Gay Pride" signs. There is nothing gay about homosexual sex, which needs condoms to prevent the spread of HIV and other venereal diseases. If it's so wonderful, then how come disease is so easily spread by it? Of course we have to love the homosexuals as creatures of God, the same as us, but we certainly DON'T have to agree with their agenda.
I remember when New York City proudly displayed so-called "artwork" of the Blessed Virgin Mary with feces and female body parts around her. I didn't think that it was wise for the city to fund that and "Piss Christ", a crucifix in urine "art". Well, when 9/11 happened, I thought - I hope they're happy. Now they've gone and mocked God's word again, this time even worse, with the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah now being "the law of the land". May God have mercy on us, because thanks to politicians like Andrew Cuomo, we are no longer "One nation under God", but rather, "One nation under Man."

There is a payback for sin, (what goes around, comes around) and the payback is worse than the original sin itself. The problem is that we don’t see sin as something tangible, which has a debt attached to it. It’s like a credit card that runs up a balance; the balance has to be paid back, with a LOT of interest, at some point. We humans can’t see it, but it is still there nonetheless. Sin is also like a boomerang – You throw it, and it feels great. Then, when you least expect it, it comes back full circle and hits you in the back of the head, harder than when you threw it. And the deadlier the sin, the deadlier the payback. And that's only the payback on earth, which is God's way of letting you know what awaits us in hell if we don't repent now. The Church has been given the sacrament of confession by Jesus Himself, in John 20:21ff, so the truly wise will take advantage of God's grace in that beautiful sacrament. In physics, there is a law that says "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." That is oh so true in life as well.
